The discussion was jointly organized with DCCI. The focus of the seminar was on registration of geographical indication traditional goods in order to improve the economy of Bangladesh. Recommendation of One District One Product came during the discussion. Keynote papers were presented by Dr. Abu Yusuf, Customs Specialist, USAID-TFA and Ms. Sheikh RuksanaBurhan, Research Associate, BFTI.

DCCI President, Hossain Khaled drew attention on the importance of coordination among the authorities in registering traditional products under GI.

Mr. Tofail Ahmed, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Commerce who waspresent as the Chief Guest recommended that country’s indigenous products like jute, jamdani and local varieties of mangoes should be brought under GI and ministry of industry would play the key role in this case. Mr. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, ndc, Secretary, Ministry of industry was present as Special Guest.
