Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute (BFTI) organized a Public Consultation on 'Study on Identifying the Area of Products for Imposing Anti-Dumping and Countervailing Duties’ under Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission (BTTC) on 07 May 2025. The event was held at the Academic Block of the BFTI at Karwan Bazar, Dhaka.
Mr. Md. Abdur Razzak (Additional Secretary), Chief Executive Officer (CEO), BFTI graced the event as the Chief Guest. Mr. Md. Munir Chowdhury, National Trade Expert, Bangladesh Regional Connectivity Project (BRCP)-1 and Former Additional Secretary (Grade-1), Ministry of Commerce and Mr. Md. Enamul Haque, Member (Joint Secretary), Trade Remedies Division, BTTC attended the program as the Special Guests.
Mr. Raihan Ubaidullah, Deputy Chief, Trade Remedies Division, BTTC and Mr. Md. Mamun-Ur-Rashid Askari, Joint Chief, International Cooperation Division, BTTC attended the program as discussants. Mr. Harunur Rashid, Research Manager, BFTI delivered welcome remarks and keynote presentation at the event.
Mr. Harunur Rashid, Research Manager, BFTI welcomed the guests and shared the background of the study, including the process on how data was collected and draft report was prepared in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
In his opening remark, Mr. Md. Abdur Razzak (Additional Secretary), CEO, BFTI thanked BTTC for entrusting BFTI for conducting the study. He also extended his gratitude to the participants for their presence at the program. Mr. Razzak highlighted the significant role of the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission in safeguarding domestic industries from the adverse effects of unfair trade practices, such as dumping and foreign subsidies. Despite the existence of legal frameworks, it is observed that Bangladesh has not yet effectively enforced such protective measures. He concluded by stating that the study is intended to bridge this gap by identifying vulnerable industrial sectors and assessing the impact of unfair imports on domestic industries.
The workshop was followed by an interactive Q&A session moderated by Mr. Md. Munir Chowdhury, National Trade Expert, Bangladesh Regional Connectivity Project (BRCP)-1 and Former Additional Secretary (Grade-1), Ministry of Commerce.
