Opening Session of the Validation Workshop; Date: June 10, 2026
Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute (BFTI) organized a Validation Workshop for the study titled “Strengthening of the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission: Review of Existing Laws and Regulations” on 10 June 2026 at BFTI.
The study was commissioned by the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission (BTTC) to comprehensively review its existing legal and institutional framework. It aimed to identify critical gaps and propose targeted reforms to strengthen BTTC’s role as an effective trade policy advisory body in an increasingly complex and rapidly evolving global trade environment.
Dr. Saif Uddin Ahammad, Chief Executive Officer (Additional Charge), BFTI, and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, chaired the programme.
Mr. Nasir-Ud-Doula, Chairman (Secretary), Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission, attended the event as the Chief Guest and formally inaugurated the workshop.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Mr. Rashedul Kabir, Junior Consultant of the study and Research Fellow (Academic Affairs), BFTI. He presented the key findings and recommendations of the study.
Following the keynote presentation, Dr. Mostafa Abid Khan, Component Manager-1, Support to Sustainable Graduation Project (SSGP), Economic Relations Division, and former Member of the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission, delivered his remarks as a panelist. He described the report as “rich” and shared his observations.
Mr. Md. Enamul Haque, Member, Trade Remedies Division, Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission, also participated as a panelist. He praised the report as comprehensive, timely, and commendable, and provided additional recommendations.
An interactive open-floor discussion was subsequently held, moderated by Dr. Md. Abdul Khaleque, Consultant to the study and Associate Professor, Department of Development Studies, University of Dhaka.
Participants from the public and private sectors actively engaged in the discussion and shared valuable insights.
