Mohammad Navid Safiullah comes from a respectable Muslim family of Chattogram. He was born on December 30 1969 in Jashore, Bangladesh. His father Major General Dr. A.K.M. Safiullah Khan (Retd) was the former Chief Physician and Head Department of Medicine in the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Dhaka. Mr. Navid obtained Masters in English Linguistics from Dhaka University, earned MBA on Digital Technologies Management from the Royal Roads, a top notch Public University in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada and subsequently attained Masters in Governance & Development from the BRAC University, Bangladesh. Mr. Navid joined Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration) on 15 November, 1995.
During his long serving career spanning over 28 years, he has garnered diversified experience. He has been appointed as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Commerce recently. Immediately before, he served as Additional Secretary in the ICT Division. Earlier, he served as Joint Secretary in the Economic Relations Division (ERD), Ministry of Finance. Mr. Navid worked as Commercial Attaché at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Madrid, Spain. In this capacity, he also worked as Bangladesh's Alternate Permanent Representative to the United Nations World Tourism Organization for five years. As Commercial Counsellor, he made immense contribution towards promotion of bilateral trade and investments between Bangladesh and Spain. From 2012- 2014 Mr. Navid served as Director, Governance Innovation Unit (GIU) in the Prime Minister’s Office, Bangladesh.
Civil Service Reforms organized by the IDS of Sussex University, UK, KOICA’s Special Training Program on Economic Development Strategy, Seoul, Republic of Korea and SIDA’s International Training Program on Public Service Management, Sweden are notable amid the professional trainings. He was the sole Bangladeshi Commercial Counsellor posted in the EU countries nominated for this prestigious CBI Master Class on EU Export Promotion for Commercial Attachés arranged by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Hague, Netherlands. He also participated in the Regional Launch of the Capacity Building Program on Frontier ICTs for Sustainable Development co-organized by APCICT/ESCAP, Republic of Korea in Incheon, South Korea. Further, he also attended the Executive Leadership Program organized by the University of New South Wales at Canberra & Sydney, Australia and a Training Program a course titled "The Role of the EU Cyber Ecosystem in the Global Cyber Security Stability" arranged in partnership with the European Security and Defence College and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands in Brussels, Belgium.
Mr. Navid is an esteemed member of the National Trainers' Pool under the Ministry of Public Administration, Government of Bangladesh. He has delivered insightful lectures and served as a resource person at a number of prestigious institutions, including the Public Administration Department of the University of Dhaka, the Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Academy, the National Defense College (NDC), the Defense Services Command & Staff College (DSCSC), the Bangladesh Foreign Service Academy, the National Academy for Planning & Development, and the Police Staff College. Furthermore, he has lectured at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Dhaka.
With a wealth of expertise in Performance Management, Public Service Innovation, Economic Diplomacy, Business English, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), Mr. Navid has made significant contributions to the academic and professional spheres. He also has numerous publications to his credit, further highlighting his depth of knowledge in these fields.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Mr. Navid is an enlisted presenter at Bangladesh Betar. His international engagements have led him to visit and collaborate with experts across the UK, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Turkey, Austria, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, China, South Korea, and Australia.
Mr. Navid is an enlisted singer of Bangladesh Television. He is an avid painter, traveler, and passionate about gardening, writing articles and nurturing innovative ideas. He is happily married to Sonya Rahman. They are blessed with a son and a daughter namely Ahnaf and Ayesha respectively
