Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute (BFTI) organized a three-day training program titled "Capacity Building Training on Introduction to WTO Fundamentals, Key Agreements, Domestic Trade Policies and Bangladesh Trade Portal: Basic Level (Batch-1)” from 27-29 September 2026 at BFTI. The training program was initiated by the Bangladesh Regional Connectivity Project-1 (BRCP-1), Ministry of Commerce to strengthen the capacity of government and private sector officials in understanding WTO fundamentals and Bangladesh’s trade policies.

The closing session and certificate-awarding ceremony was held on 29 September 2026. Md. Ataur Rahman Khan, ndc, Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, attended the session as the Chief Guest. In his remarks, he congratulated the participants on successfully completing the training program. He also underscored the importance of developing a skilled cadre of government officials with a sound understanding of WTO agreements and domestic trade policies to contribute effectively to policy decision-making.

Dr. Mostafa Abid Khan, Chief Executive Officer, BFTI, attended the inaugural session as the Special Guest. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of building a strong knowledge base among government and private sector officials on WTO agreements and domestic policies. He highlighted BFTI’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity through research, and training and policy analysis, noting that well-informed officials are essential for effectively representing Bangladesh’s trade interests.

Ms. Shaila Yasmin, Project Director (Joint Secretary), BRCP-1, chaired the closing session. In her address, she emphasized BRCP-1’s continued efforts to build the capacity of government and private sector officials on trade-related topics. Mr. Md. Munir Chowdhury, National Trade Expert, BRCP-1, attended the closing session as the Moderator of the training program.

A total of 20 participants from Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Industries, Ministry of Shipping, Ministry of Food, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, National Board of Revenue (NBR), Finance Division, Bangladesh Bank, Invest Bangladesh Authority,  Bangladesh Competition Commission (BCC),  Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission (BTTC),Department of Patents, Industrial Designs & Trademarks (DPDT), Office of the Chief Controller of Imports & Exports (CCI&E), Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI)  and BFTI attended the training program.
