Tetra Tech International Development Pty Ltd. (Tetra Tech) in conjunction with the Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute (BFTI) and Institute of International Trade (IIT), the University of Adelaide, Australia is conducting research titled “Bangladesh Trade and Investment Study: Market Opportunities and Trade Barriers.” The study is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of the Australian Government. It is worth mentioning that the diplomatic engagements and cooperation between Australia and Bangladesh have been strengthened over the years. The signing of a Trade and Investment Framework Arrangement (TIFA) in 2021 between the two countries further enhanced trade and investment prospects.
The objective of this study encompasses a meticulous examination of market opportunities and limitations pertinent to Australian enterprises and exporters. Furthermore, the study endeavors to formulate recommendations relevant to strategies for increased trade and investment activities between Bangladesh and Australia. It also aims to identify existing trade constraints and propose potential recommendations for resolving constraints. The sectors under the study include (i) Agriculture, (ii) Fisheries and Livestock, (iii) Energy and Minerals, (iv) Air Connectivity and (v) Vocational Education. Additionally, several other major sectors including (i) Ready-Made Garments, (ii) Information Technology, (iii) Light Engineering, (iv) Leather Goods, and (v) Footwear, are also being scrutinized in this study.
