Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute (BFTI) has conducted a study titled ‘Potentials of the Light Engineering Industry/Sector in Bangladesh' under the initiative of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA). The objectives of the study were to identify and analyze the investment opportunities within Bangladesh's light engineering sector, evaluate the risks and challenges, outline the regulatory environment, fiscal and non-fiscal incentives, and support mechanisms provided by the government and provide strategic recommendations for potential investors.
As a part of the study, BFTI organized a stakeholder consultation on the, ‘Potentials of the Light Engineering Industry/Sector in Bangladesh' on 03 June 2024 in the Academic Block of BFTI. Executive Chairman (Senior Secretary) of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Mr. Lokman Hossain Miah graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The stakeholder consultation was chaired by Dr. Md. Jafar Uddin, CEO, BFTI. Representatives from various ministries, public and private sectors participated in the stakeholder consultation.
The participants discussed the challenges related to the light engineering industry/sector in Bangladesh to achieving export competitiveness. The findings of this study may play a crucial role in informing potential investors about the viability and strategic approaches to investing in this potential sector.
